Got an idea? Write it down!

Origin of Image pads & pencils

Happy New Year! Happy new diary, happy new energy, happy new prezzies, happy new plans, and happy new ideas.

Nothing like the freshness of a year beginning and since we’ve (finally) managed to get past digesting the festive feasts, the mind is beginning to flow. The quiet and calm of January gives great space for a breeze of ideas, they wonder in and out of our OoI minds and are all together crazy, fabulous, exciting, huge, silly, adventurous, initial but are all together leaving stimulation, excitement, energy, hope, they’re waking us from a well deserved rest and guiding us forward to this year’s projects and events. It’s a brilliant time! One not to be ignored and one that we would like to encourage. (more…)

Festivities, keep your perspective!

…And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so?
It came without ribbons. It came without tags.
It came without packages, boxes or bags.
And he puzzled and puzzled ’till his puzzler was sore…

Soula.com.au revamp. Design or art, who leads the task?

soula_site

It’s a tough project to design something for ‘family’. Our Soula needed a website for her artwork, can you hear the alarm bells? So we have art and design, which steers it? Is it design first, then the art, or just art or just design… hang on, let’s just ask Soula how she wants her site to look…

As if that’s going to work, that’s the whole problem, Soula wants her yellow cupcake and to eat it too! In fact she laps up both personalities claiming that she can’t choose between them, and in fact needs both and has incorporated both in her life all the time!!! (more…)

Love is the drive, Marian Bantjes

I don’t like to refer to my daily activities as ‘work’ as this (poor, dear) word is mostly associated with negativity and the act of miserable duty. I’d prefer to say I entertain my imagination daily with creative solutions AND I LOVE IT.

So when I came across Marian Bantjes I listened and listened with contentedness to her positive and very personally satisfying description of her ‘work’ and watched and watched the wonderful outcomes, of course all driven by love of ‘work’. And it isn’t just love driven, it has zeal, energy, vigor, spirit and ardor (to say the least), well they’re the things I feel when I’m ‘working’. (more…)

Aesop

AESOPBodyPetitgrain

We love to discover and acquire ‘black and yellow’ goods. You can imagine our delight when we saw Aesop’s new Body Petitgrain Gel and it wasn’t just the enveloping colours that did it for us (well, the yellow did finally give us the excuse to get an Aesop article on our blog!) but the way design wraps around you from entry to exit in any Aesop store is a treasured experience, not to mention the value the label gives our industry. If you struggle to understand what design is all about, just head into an Aesop store, it’s there, all around you, and all your senses will be ‘designedly’ satisfied.  (more…)

Do you believe in writing with pen and paper?

Ecriture Infinie is an art project by Bili Bidjocka: www.ecritureinfinie.org

Well I can’t put the Infinite Writing information better myself. All I’m going to do is let you all know that I’ve been included in this fabulous project and you can be too. Or you can simply enjoy reading about it and learn where writing stands today (and at the very least hit this link and like my image!).

The following is text from the ecritureinfinie website:

A rite of passage.
Ecriture Infinie / Infinite Writing is the celebration of a 3500 year old invention: handwriting. For generations, men and women have put pen to paper to spread revolutionary ideas, request payments, run inner monologues, declare their love, make up stories, send death threats. What now? (more…)

Open Manifesto

We’ve found it! Affirmations for creatives. As if any designer is going to fall for flowery, self indulgent thoughts that are purely directed to our confidence and feed the ego! Pff!. We are naturally talented in that way, ego is very healthy thanks. What we require is STIMULATION, stir up that left side of the brain and get us churning towards the next big idea.

Open manifesto, go on and stimulate us!

Want to do something?.. do it properly

It’s something we always say at Origin of Image. There really is only one way to do things and any other avenue is sadly, a compromise.

Originally made for advertising, this video shows a lot about the letterpress process.

In 2011, aggrodesign traveled to Knoxville, Tennessee to work with Yee-Haw Industries on a set of 10 letterpress posters. Watch the video… (more…)
