Easy hey? Well it wasn’t, we’ve come a long way. And its time to give acknowledgment to the great Ottmar Mergenthaler who in 1886 invented the first typecasting machine. Oh Thank you! This invention, stated as the ‘Twitter’ of its time by Linotype, greatly enabled information to spread more rapidly, so news could be read within hours rather than days and led to an expansive production of literacy because of its efficiency. I’m so lucky. I have an art mentor… he is the wonderful Jeff Makin (I know, I know… lucky gal hey?). Jeff and I started, what I would call, art therapy about a year ago now after I attended his life drawing session at the brilliant James Makin gallery in Collingwood. It was Jeff that reintroduced me to Johannes Itten’s book The Art of Color and set me to the task of painting Itten’s exercise of the representation of the four seasons. (more…)

Its not always possible to enjoy a masterpiece in your home but we come close!
When two creative heads (named Theo and Soula), ever so passionate about aesthetics and design, decide to renovate their home it’s obviously not a job that will be handed over totally to anyone. But like design briefs, the client has the ingredients, they (usually, hopefully) know what they want to achieve with their project so nope, you just can’t step aside and hand the task over. I satisfied the hunger with this piece.
Think about it, how can an artist give out a business card that’s been run on a macheeeeeeeeen! (aargh!) not to mention a few hundred times like a photocopy and yells: ‘I’m mass produced because there’s no time and its cheaper to do it this way’! Oh too sad, couldn’t do that to my ‘art’ representative could I? (more…)
This was such an exciting project. Art and design can take you to such great places and this particular experience would have to be one of the outstanding life destinations…
I guess the event preset the mood. I had a brilliant team working with me, one of whom was Theo… yes again. Each of these fabric canvases (yes, fabric) was approximately four mt wide. The idea, thanks to darling Damian Crock, was to paint from behind the screen so the paint bled through the fabric and the image revealed itself to the 1,000 guests dining at the Crown Palladium Ballroom over the course of the night’s dinner.
